ABHIJIT MITRA, PH.D.
Abhijit Mitra holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Columbia University. He is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, as well as a highly regarded Chemistry, Adjunct Professor at Polytechnic Institute of NYU’s Westchester Graduate Campus.

ROBERT J. FLYNN, PHD
Robert J. Flynn is the Academic Advisor for the MS in Information Systems Engineering Executive Degree Program, Industry Professor of Computer Science at Polytechnic Institute of NYU and an independent consultant on issues in computing. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from Polytechnic and a B.S. in physics from Manhattan College.
Prof. Flynn began his professional career in 1965 as a systems programmer for IBM working in the area of compiler writing languages. He left IBM in order to pursue graduate studies. He taught and studied at Polytechnic and upon completion of his Ph.D., joined the regular mathematics faculty.
Since becoming Academic Advisor for the ISE program, Prof. Flynn has been instrumental in re-organizing and modernizing the program to meet the needs of the changing face of the industry. In addition to his current duties at Polytechnic he has also served as Assistant to the Provost and was instrumental in the formation of the computer science group within the department of electrical engineering. He received several teaching awards including the designation of Distinguished Professor by the student body and the Institute Distinguished Teacher by the entire Institute in 1979.
Prof. Flynn began consulting in 1972, working on models of cutting plans for yacht sails. He continued this and in 1979 left the Institute to pursue more fully his consulting career. He now consults chiefly in the areas of computer systems design and organization and marketing especially in application intensive areas (large scale scientific machines, data base machines, personal digital assistants), operating systems issues including their security and penetration and in the area of investment analysis of companies in those areas. Representative clients include IBM, AT&T and Montgomery Securities. He has also been a consultant to the New York Assembly on computer issues for many years.
After Mr. Flynn left Polytechnic he continued to teach as an adjunct Professor of Computer Science. In 1984 he accepted the designation of Industry Professor, a position in which he can more evenly divide his time between teaching architecture and operating systems and consulting in those areas.
He is a member of ACM, IEEE Computer Society, SIAM and AMS. Additionally he is a member of Sigma Xi and Sigma Pi Sigma. He has been a Visiting Scholar at Aarhus University (Denmark) and Stanford University.
GAUTUM KAR, PH.D.
Dr. Gautam Kar has over twenty years experience in the areas of computer & telecommunication networks with focus on distributed systems & network management. He has held senior management and technical strategist positions in network/distributed systems design and management, value added network services definition & delivery and software development in IBM USA, IBM Europe and the ITT Corporation.
Gautam received a PhD in Computer and Information Science from the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. After teaching at the University of South Carolina for three years as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science, he joined the ITT Advanced Technology Center as a Member of Technical Staff. He was at ITT for three years, where he worked on the design and implementation of database and call processing software for distributed telephone switches.
In 1983, Gautam joined the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center and has been associated with it since. Currently, he is the Manager of the Intelligent Server Management group. His research interests include, management of distributed systems and modeling and designing web based services. During his eighteen year tenure at IBM, Gautam has worked in several divisions besides the Research Division. From 1989 to 1993, he was the Manager of the Distributed Applications research group at the IBM European Networking Center in Heidelberg, Germany. From 1994 to 1999, he was the Senior Manager of Network and Systems Management in the IBM Global Network Services division.
Dr. Kar is active in the Distributed Systems research community. He has published in the top conferences in this field and has served as the Technical Program Chair for the Eleventh IFIP/IEEE International Workshop on Distributed Systems, December 2000. He is a co editor of Lecture Notes in Computer Science: Services Management in Intelligent Networks (No. 1960), Springer Verlag, 2000.
ARMAND KEIM
As President of Keim Consulting Associates he has been involved in all aspects of management and information systems support for firms in the financial industry and also has assisted Not for Profit organizations as a volunteer. He previously was the CIO of the NYCE Corporation and Cowen and Company. He has consulted to firms such as: The Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation, Furman and Selz, Reuters America, Intralinks, Global Internet and a number of Not for Profits in areas such as data center operations, client service, operations, systems development, business management, telecommunications, website development and new business development. He holds a BEE from Polytechnic Institute of NYU and an MBA from Baruch College. He has taught at Polytechnic and Fordham Universities and co-authored, "Fundamentals of Digital Computers" and authored a chapter in, "The Handbook of Investment Technology".
PARVIZ KERMANI, PH.D.
Parviz Kermani holds a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from UCLA. Since 1978, he has been with IBM at T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY.
While at UCLA, he participated in the ARPA network project which later led to the creation of the Internet. At UCLA, he did research in the design and evaluation of switching and flow control techniques in computer communication networks under the supervision of Professor Leonard Kleinrock. His pioneering work on a new switching technique, Cut-Through switching, later was used in many innovative switching and networking architectures.
Since joining IBM, he has been involved in a number of diverse research projects spanning from theoretical works to product developments, all in computer communication areas. He has made numerous contributions to a number of IBM communication products.
Dr. Kermani is a senior member of IEEE and has many publications in diverse fields of computers and communications. He has chaired technical sessions in a number of international conferences. Dr. Kermani has also received a number of IBM awards and recognition for his innovative works for which IBM holds patents.
He is also an adjunct professor at the graduate center of Polytechnic Institute of NYU in Westchester, New York, where he teaches graduate courses in computer communication networks.
His current interests are in the area of mobile computing, personal system communications, and Internet security, distributed and pervasive computing systems.

MATTHEW DUFTLER
IGNACIO SILVA-LEPE, PH.D.
Dr. Silva-Lepe is an Advisory Software Engineer with the Enterprise Middleware Group at IBM Research. He joined IBM in 1997. He has participated in the design and implementation of the mapping of the Enterprise Java Beans specification onto Component Broker, the definition of the Composite Business Object piece of Component Broker’s Object Builder, and more recently on the definition of a new type of Enterprise Java Beans that can communicate via asynchronous messaging.
He received a B.S. in Computer Systems Engineering from Universidad ITESO, Guadalajara, Mexico in 1985, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts in 1989 and 1997, respectively.

SYDNEY HANTLER
Sidney L. Hantler received the BS, MS, and PhD degrees in mathematics from The University of Michigan where he did research in functional analysis and the theory of functions of several complex variables. Upon graduation he joined the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center where he has done research in software verification, telecommunications, queueing theory, systems performance analysis and knowledge management. He has also held a variety of administrative management positions in technical recruiting and hiring. He is currently the manager of the Stochastic Analysis Department, a small group of people doing research in applied probability and knowledge management.

AARON KERSHENBAUM
Aaron Kershenbaum has been active in the field of network analysis and optimization for over 35 years, as a researcher, consultant and professor. He helped design many networks, including the ARPANET, NASDAQ and the IBM Global Network. He has authored two books and over 75 published papers in the fields of network analysis and design and has supervised over 25 Ph.D. theses in these areas. He is an Associate Editor of the Wiley Journal „Networks„ and an IEEE Fellow. Most recently, he has been developing algorithms for semantic retrieval by reasoning over large scale ontologies. Prior to that he worked with researchers in the Computational Biology Center in Yorktown, analyzing gene regulatory networks and with researchers in Hawthorne analyzing security of Java programs..

John Rafter has been teaching Project Management at the Westchester campus for the past five years. John holds Masters Degrees in Education Psychology from Temple University and Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His professional experience includes management positions at Johnson and Johnson, United Technologies, Hoffmann-LaRoche, and Barr Laboratories. Currently, John and his family live in Oneonta, NY, where he teaches at several colleges, operates a consulting practice, and is active in local government and economic development.
ARNOLD COHEN
Most of Arnold Cohen’s professional career was with IBM, in marketing. He also held various staff and management positions in finance, product planning, business planning, marketing and product development. He spent three years in Japan coordinating country planning for the Asia Pacific Group, and retired when this assignment ended. He has an MBA from City College, and has completed course work towards a PhD at the New School.
EDWARD GREENBAUM
Mr. Edward Greenbaum received his MS in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University, a MA from Baruch College and an MA in Personnel and Counseling from New York University.
He founded and directed his own enterprise until 1980 when he became a member of the Management Faculty at Pace and Teikyo Post University. Mr. Greenbaum was the President and Chief Negotiator for the American Federation of School Administrators.
In 1982 the American Arbitrator Association certified him, as a "Neutral" on the Labor Management panel. He is currently an Arbitrator–Mediator for the American Arbitration Association and Labor Management Alternative Dispute Resolutions.
In addition he is presently a Management-Labor Consultant: Specializing in Operational Law, Negotiating Strategies, Contract Construction and Organizational Development and Behavior.
THOMAS HUTCHINSON
Tom has over 20 years of experience in the financial information and analysis field. He is currently the Director of Research and co-founder of Integrity Research Associates, a company that rtes the quality of equity research. In addition, Tom is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Financial and Risk Engineering Department at Polytechnic Institute of NYU.
Previously, Tom was a Vice President and Financial Analyst with Market Data Corporation, a financial information company, where he managed the Mortgage-Backed Securities product and contributed to online analytical reports on financial markets. He also served as a Cantor Fitzgerald trading floor economist during this time. He was the founder of PATH International, which supplied financial information to commercial and investment banks and brokers on the North American financial markets.
Tom began his financial analysis career at MMS International. He started in the Toronto office as the Chief Economist and business manager, nearly doubling the revenue of the business of that office over two years. He was later relocated to New York, where he managed the Global Foreign Exchange Product and served as the Director of Capital Market Research. He was a regular guest on CNBC in the early 1990s, discussing the impact on events on the financial markets in a real-time environment.
In the early years of his career, he first served as Toronto Dominion Bank’s Financial Economist and then was moved to the Risk Management Department, where he researched market risk and made recommendation for position limits for the bank’s trading activities to the Bank’s Executive.
Tom started his career at the United Nations in Vienna as an Economic Consultant in the Global and Conceptual Studies Branch of UNIDO. He graduated from McMaster University with a Master in Economics in 1983.
