Biography
Dana Karwas is a designer and educator working in interactive media including installation, architecture, video, web, art, and user centered design. She is the co-founder of BLDG BLOK, a start-up that is re-imaging the way tourists interface with cities. Since 2008 she has served as the Media Director for artist Maya Lin's fifth and final memorial, What is Missing?
Dana has taught classes on digital media at NYU's ITP program, NYU's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation, and at Harvestworks digital media center in NYC.
Dana's projects have been shown at The Boston Museum of Science, The London Festival of Architecture, The Chelsea Art Museum, The Museo de Belle Arts Caracas, The Contemporary Art Museum Caracas, The DUMBO Art Under the Bridge Festival, The University Club NYC, Knoll International Paris, Karkula Gallery NYC, The Museum of Television and Radio NYC, and The International Contemporary Furniture Fair NYC.
Client experience includes Maya Lin, Knoll International, The United Nations, Esquire, Wieden+Kennedy, Ogilvy, Malin+Goetz, Givaudin, Archi-Tectonics, Bitforms Gallery, Luke DuBois, Toni Dove, The Fitch Foundation, Gratz Industries, and Moleskine.
Dana holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the School of Architecture, Design, and Planning at the University of Kansas. She has a Masters from The Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, with a focus on integrating media into architectural spaces.
