Short-Term Individual Therapy
Nearly all students experience occasional difficulties that can interfere with their success or sense of well-being. These can include academic problems; conflicts with friends, family, or partners; indecision about academic or career plans; excessive feelings of stress or depression; grief; loneliness; or any concern that is distressing and distracting.
Psychotherapy offers an opportunity to talk to a trained professional who will help you survey the situation, assess where the problem lies, and develop helpful solutions. The counselor will listen without judgment, help you to clarify your own thinking and feelings, and provide information relevant to your problem.
Enrolled students are eligible for short-term individual counseling. Schedule an appointment here or stop by our office in room 358 on the third floor of the Jacobs Administration Building between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drug Services
The Counseling Center provides a number of services for students interested in better understanding their use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. For more information, please see details below or call the Center to schedule an appointment.
* Individual Counseling
Treatment for alcohol and other drug concerns takes a motivational approach, designed to increase a student's desire to make positive changes regarding his or her alcohol and drug use. This approach emphasizes students' personal responsibility and choices during the treatment process. Treatment often involves once-a-week meetings, which can be supplemented by weekly on- or off-campus groups.
* The ECHO Program
The Exploring Change and Healthy Options (ECHO) program provides students with the opportunity to explore their alcohol and drug use in a non-judgmental environment. Such exploration helps students make more well-informed decisions about their use of substances by helping them to better understand the role these substances play in their lives.
The ECHO program includes three primary components:
- Initial assessment and review of alcohol and other drug (AOD) use behaviors
- Personalized assessment and feedback of current AOD use patterns (includes a Personalized Feedback Report that students may keep)
- Completion of a consciousness-raising assignment designed to assist in making more educated decisions about future use of alcohol and illicit substances
