Cross-Institution “Seed” Research

A $5M “seed” research fund will be distributed over 5 years to support research projects between Polytechnic and New York University faculty. The competitive research pool, which was established as part of the affiliation between the 2 institutions, is meant to strengthen collaborations between the schools and serve as a platform for seeking future extramural funding.

The first projects were selected in March 2009 based on the quality of the proposed science. They included research on a device to prevent epileptic seizures, an exploration of how the structure of proteins changes in response to forces and environment, and new approaches to security and privacy in today’s technologically-driven world, among others. Additional rounds of projects have been and will be selected and funded.
