  Registration Instruction

Academic standing

To remain in good standing, undergraduate students must maintain term and cumulative grade point averages of 2.00 or higher. If the minimum GPA is not maintained, the student will be put on academic probation for that semester.

More information can be found in the University's catalogue.

Auditing courses

Graduate students can audit a graduate or undergraduate course with an advisor's approval. Regular tuition fees still apply. Audit forms are obtained and filed in the Office of the Registrar during the first six weeks of classes.

Alumni audit option

The Alumni Association offers a special reduced tuition ($600 per course) audit option for Polytechnic alumni. Contact the Alumni Office at (718) 260-3885 for further details.

Course loads/approval

During the summer, students may register for up to seven credits during the X and Y sessions, and for up to 14 credits during the Z session. To be considered as a full-time student for financial aid purposes, students must be registered for a minimum of six credits during the summer term. Courses taken during the mini-session are treated as if they were taken during the subsequent summer session.

Note: An advisor's approval to register for a course does not signify that the course may be used to fulfill a degree requirement.

Veterans withdrawal

Veterans should notify the Veterans Affairs representative in the Office of the Registrar after completion of registration. They must also report any changes in course load during the semester. Failure to do so may result in overpayment by the VA and/or financial liability for the student.

Veterans must abide by regular University tuition payment policies. Arrangements for pending payments of benefits or advance payments are not available.

Withdrawal from a course

Withdrawal forms must be approved by the student's advisor and returned to the Office of the Registrar. Once a student withdraws from a class a "W" will appear on their transcript next to the course from which they withdrew.

The withdrawal period begins on the day after the program adjustment period ends.

University withdrawal

Leave of absence

Students desiring to withdraw from all of their courses during a semester must file the "TOTAL WITHDRAWAL/LEAVE OF ABSENCE FORM". The Offices of Financial Aid, the Bursar, Academic Affairs, and the student's major department must approve the form before it is filed with the Office of the Registrar.

Students must supply a date in which they expect to return to the University.

Total withdrawal

Students desiring to withdraw from the university entirely must file the "TOTAL WITHDRAWAL/LEAVE OF ABSENCE FORM". The Offices of Financial Aid, the Bursar, Academic Affairs, and the student's major department must approve the form before it is filed with the Office of the Registrar..

Once registered, you will be financially obligated to the university even though you are not attending classes.
