In support of President Hultin's Future of Polytechnic initiative, University Relations and Development has received gifts and pledges totaling more than $4.5 million, since June 1, 2006. Among the gifts received and scholarships established, under the direction of Vice President Richard Thorsen, are:
- A $1 million bequest to Polytechnic from the estates of William T. and Elva Hudtwalker has established the William T. Hudtwalker Scholarship Endowment to provide financial support to undergraduate students in electrical engineering. The bequest was part of the estate Mrs. Hudtmaker inherited upon the death of her husband in 1987. Over time, what began as a relatively modest amount grew into an appreciable sum, which was left to NYU-Poly when Mrs. Hudtwalker died in 2005 at the age of 94.
- Jenny Proskauer, the wife of 1984 honorary degree recipient Eric Proskauer, has bequest $500,000 to the Eric and Jenny R. Proskauer Scholarship Fund to assist qualified and deserving Polytechnic students.
- George Cha, ME '70, and his wife Assunta, fulfilled a $100,000 gift to establish an endowment named the Cha Family Endowed Scholarship, in support of a female student with a passion for the arts, sciences and community service.
- Norma Rancken Cossey, the late wife of C. Murray Cossey, CE '47, made an unrestricted bequest of $63,000. Notwithstanding her interest in several NYU-Poly organizations, Norma decided on an unrestricted gift so as to support university wide priorities as the Future of Polytechnic initiative unfolds.
- A total $105,000 in corporate completion gifts arising from Polytechnic's $1 million Promise Fund Dinner have been received from the General Electric Company, Motorola, MTV Networks, and Time Warner Cable.
Friends and alumni have given NYU-Poly a jump start as we begin our Future of Polytechnic initiatives. Among Poly's early stage "angel funders" investing in our future are: William Friend, Violet Jacobs, Linda Jacobs, Leonard Shustek and Donna Dubinsky, and Paul Soros. Now we need to grow our resources and invite the greater community to support our future ambitions. Given the support for "The Power of PolyThinking" from individuals and friends, NYU-Poly now needs the community-at-large to step up to the plate, alongside alumni and corporate benefactors.
