Paul M. Horn is currently Distinguished Scientist in Residence at NYU. Dr. Horn retired in September 2007 as Senior Vice President for IBM Research having started his two-decade career with IBM as a solid state physicist. He went on to hold several key management positions in science, semiconductors and storage. He is currently responsible for IBM’s worldwide research program with 3,000 technical employees at eight international sites located in five countries. Dr. Horn is a fellow of the American Physical Society, an NSF Graduate Fellow and was an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow from 1974 to 1978. He has published over 85 scientific and technical papers. He is a member of numerous professional committees, including the Council on Competitiveness, the Board of the Government Accountability Office, and the Clarkson University Board of Trustees, to name a few. Born in New York City, Dr. Horn graduated from Clarkson College of Technology and received his doctoral degree from the University of Rochester in 1973. Prior to joining IBM in 1979, he was a professor in the Department of Physics and the James Franck Institute at the University of Chicago.
