NYU-Poly civil engineering students take first place in regional concrete canoe competition

For the second time in three years, NYU-Poly civil engineering students glided to victory in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 19th Annual Regional Concrete Canoe Competition. Polytechnic’s ASCE student chapter defeated Rutgers University, Fairleigh Dickinson University and Rowan University at the competition which took place at Rowan University, April 28-29, 2006.

Over thirty NYU-Poly students contributed their brainpower, creativity, and stamina to lead the team to victory. These students invested nearly 1,300 hours to design and build a 290 pound concrete canoe with a surprising propensity for speed and maneuverability.

The team will advance to the national competition to be held June 15-17, 2006 at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma where they will compete against more than 20 other universities from around the country.
