Development of a Sensor Fusion Algorithm for Attitude and Rate Determination — Abhimanyu Ghosh’s (Mechanical Engineering ’15) summer research involved developing a sensor fusion algorithm that incorporates input from an accelerometer, a gyroscope and an electronic compass to gauge a vehicle’s orientation in 3D space.

Each summer members of the Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU-Poly) faculty open up their labs to undergraduates from NYU-Poly, NYU's College of Arts and Sciences and NYU Abu Dhabi for 10 weeks of hands-on research under close mentorship. Students work full time in the lab with a faculty member and also participate in weekly seminars presented by distinguished faculty and guests. Last week, at the program’s end, students presented their projects at the New Student Convocation.
The Summer Research Program was initiated in 2007 by the Office of the Provost. Its success is made possible by the financial support from the Institute’s loyal and generous donors as well as supplements from the research grants of the mentoring faculty.
