On June 6th, 2011 President John Sexton hosted a reception at the Waldorf Astoria, Shanghai, for NYU and NYU-Poly community in greater Shanghai area to hear firsthand about the University's exciting new initiatives around the world. The reception was also an opportunity to celebrate the creation of NYU Shanghai, an unprecedented initiative between New York University and China to open a comprehensive research university in China's financial capital. President Hultin attended along with a number of Poly alumni.
