Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, Jr. can thank NASA Chief Engineer Thomas Joseph Kelly's two-stage Lunar Module design for their place in history. With an ascent stage that provided living space and 3,500 pounds of thrust into lunar orbit, his ideas put man on the moon.
