On May 28, 1992, the ribbon was cut to officially open the first Polytechnic building of the MetroTech complex. Today, it is home to the Bern Dibner Library of Science and Technology, and the Center for Advance Technology in Telecommunications. Dr. George Bugliarello, President Emeritus of the Polytechnic Institute of NYU and an internationally acclaimed engineer, author, and visionary, passed away on the morning of February 18, 2011.
In his leadership as President of Polytechnic from 1973 to 1994, his teaching and research throughout his life, and his grappling with some of the 21st century's greatest challenges and opportunities, he felt a compassion for the world and the conditions in which we live.
