At an Earth Day Green Expo held at the Urban Assembly Institute (UAI) of Math and Science for Young Women on April 22, middle-school students throughout New York City participated in career panels, competitions, and presentations exposing them to professionals in various engineering fields. The expo’s Green Home Contest challenged students to build model eco-homes and to see how engineering infuses everyday life.
“Engineering is so broad, it sounds scary. Once you break it down, people understand that engineering is in everything," said Mauri Myers-Solages, manager of corporate giving at National Grid, which sponsored the event.
