Polytechnic Institute of NYU student researchers competed for the opportunity to be named “best technical presenter” at the 2nd Annual Research Showcase on Thursday, February 18 during National Engineers Week.
The Alumni Relations office and NYU-Poly’s chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (PolySHRM) developed the showcase to foster interdisciplinary research and enhance the NYU-Poly community's understanding of how its cutting edge research is fulfilling the vision of invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship (what it calls “i-squared-e”).
The showcase also provides individual and team participants to present in front of industry professionals and academia and refine their communication skills. Alejandro Crawford of the Technology Management Department and CEO of Nolej Studios said of the showcase: "It is important for students to have a breadth of other disciplines to foster innovation, invention, and entrepreneurship."
Students were assessed on how clearly they communicated their projects to an audience from a wide range of disciplines and technical expertise, and their ability to engage the audience in their topic. Judges from academia and industry participated in this year's showcase: Christine Ianuzzi, SVP of Citadel and president of the alumni association, Miriam Cortes-Caminero, executive director of the Society of Biological Engineers, and Nina Weber, director of the Career Management Center.
