Advantages of Having an MBA from NYU-PolyThe Master of Business Administration is the premier, and most popular, business qualification in the world. In the USA alone, over 90,000 students graduate with an MBA each year. With so many MBA graduates in the market, it therefore is essential to not only earn an advanced management credential, but one that is distinct and delivers to you knowledge and decision making skills that will last a lifetime. The NYU-Poly MBA is designed with these overarching concerns in mind. People who earn an undergraduate degree in a particular field like engineering or computer science are often called upon to become specialists when they begin their work careers. If they are successful and work well with others, they can become respected professionals in their area of expertise. Such careers may indeed be fulfilling and rewarding, but since they are highly specialized, making a move to a new organization might not yield significant career development opportunities or increased responsibilities. Furthermore and perhaps of greater immediate concern, they run the risk of having their specialty outsourced to a service provider or off-shore consultant. Such individuals might be asking themselves, "what's next?" The MBA can provide the answer in a number of ways. First, it can widen a student's vision to understand and be conversant in all the functional areas of a business from accounting to finance to marketing. Second, it can enable a specialist to take a high-level, analytical view of an organization and make contributions to its strategy--taking into account a multitude of factors both internal and external. Third, it can enhance a person's value as a senior specialist, enabling them to take a well-rounded view of an enterprise in order to maximize their contribution. Take, for example, the role of a CIO, who is responsible for driving information technology to support enterprise goals. The PolyMBA will teach business knowledge within the context of a technology-intensive environment, and will therefore be highly distinctive. Polytechnic Institute of NYU’s strong technology foundation and reputation as an engineering powerhouse will further serve to make the MBA experience a unique one. A highly respected faculty in technology management and applied science & engineering with a purposeful interdisciplinary commitment together will enable MBA students to design a custom track within their area of interest. For example, students can take courses in biomedical engineering, or biotechnology to support a self-designed track in biotechnology innnovation; or study new media innovation through cross-training in Poly's Integrated Digital Media master's program; or add a quantitative finance focus by taking courses in finance and risk engineering. The possibilities are as diverse as they are intriguing. Finally, Poly's New York City location; its close ties with premier firms in NYC and elsewhere; and its large alumni population comprised of technological entrepreneurs and professionals will provide a rock-solid professional network for our graduates to launch and advance careers and companies.
