Graduate FAQs
People

From Fall 2007 onwards criteria for admission include having a bachelor's degree with at least a B average from an accredited college or university and demonstrated evidence of motivation, maturity, and the ability to benefit from and contribute to professional graduate studies. An applicant who does not meet all the criteria may be admitted as a non-degree student with the opportunity subsequently to become a degree candidate. Satisfactory scores on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or, an acceptable equivalent test such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) may be used as support for admission to degree studies.

The MSM requires completion of 12 courses, or 36 credits, with a B average or better. A maximum of 9 credits of transfer credits may be granted for graduate courses taken elsewhere, as evaluated by an advisor.

FAQs

  1. For Students who have matriculated before Fall 2007 and have any questions about the units to credtis converstion, Please contact : Professor Mel Horwitch, Chair, Department of Technology Management, Email: horwitch@poly.edu

  2. Q: "What about Statistics?"
A: Students without a background knowledge of Statistics need to take MG 505 as a 13th course.

  3. Q: Can I take courses in other departments at Poly?
A: Your free electives can come from any department at Poly, provided that they count toward a Master's degree in the department that offers them. Preparatory courses that a department does not count towards their Master's degree will not be counted by the Management department. Certain courses in other departments may be counted as concentration electives for the MS Management degree. These situations are handled on a case-by-case basis -- see your advisor for details.

  4. Q:Can I get transfer credit for work done elsewhere?
A: Yes, provided some stringent requirements are met. First, no more than 9 credits of transfer credit will be granted to any student. Second, the course must be approved before you enroll in it -- this will require that you speak with an advisor to determine what information she or he needs to determine whether the course is acceptable. As with courses in other departments at Poly, the course for which transfer credit is requested must count towards a Master's degree in the University where it is offered. This University must have academic standards that match those at Poly. All transfer credit requests are evaluated individually -- there are no automatic decisions.
