Windows Live Mail (Students)

Login Information

  • Web Site: http://mail.live.com
  • E-mail Address: You should have received a letter from IS indicating your e-mail address. If you haven’t, or if you forgot it, contact the Help Desk (see contact info below)
  • Username: Your E-mail Address
  • Password: Your initial Windows Live password is your 7-digit NYU-Poly ID number

Windows Live Mail Features

  • 5 Gigabytes of e-mail storage
  • Customizable design: choose your own color themes and layouts, reading panes, drag and drop organization
  • Works with Microsoft Office Outlook: A Microsoft Office Connector can be downloaded to manage your windows live
  • Personalized e-mail signatures
  • Saved sent messages (feature must be enabled through the options menu)
  • Customizable reply-to e-mail address
  • Mobile device alerted to new messages
  • Automated sorting of email into specific folders (as set up by the user)
  • Scheduled e-mail reminders

Services Available

The following services are available for DUKE / RAMA / PHOTON / WEST accounts:

  • Troubleshoot issues with sending and receiving emails from the server
  • Setup of new accounts or aliases
  • Setup of new mailing lists
  • Sending broadcast messages to users

How To’s

Vacation Messages

To enable:

  1. Go to: https://vacation.poly.edu.
  2. Enter your e-mail username and password.
  3. Type in your vacation message.
  4. Click "Enable Vacation Message."

To disable:

  1. Go to: https://vacation.poly.edu.
  2. Enter your e-mail username and password.
  3. Click "Disable Vacation Message."

Mail Forwarding

To enable:

  1. Go to: https://duke.poly.edu/forward.cgi.
  2. Enter your e-mail username and password.
  3. Enter the e-mail address you would like to forward to in "New Forwarding Destination."
  4. If you would like to keep a copy on duke, check "Include Copy to Self."
  5. Click "Enable Forwarding."

To disable:

  1. Go to: https://duke.poly.edu/forward.cgi.
  2. Enter your e-mail username and password.
  3. Click "Disable Forwarding."

Change Your Password

  1. Go to: https://duke.poly.edu/pwd.cgi.
  2. Enter your e-mail username and current (old) password.
  3. Enter you new password in the "New Password" and "Retype New Password."
  4. Click "Change Password."
