Health Insurance

All NYU-Poly students (undergraduate and graduate) who are enrolled in 9 or more credits will automatically be enrolled in our school-sponsored health insurance plan. The fee for this plan will be placed on your tuition bill. Domestic students may choose to opt out of the insurance plan. All international students are required to have the school-sponsored health insurance plan regardless of the number of credits they are enrolled in.

Important Dates

  • Deadline for new DOMESTIC Spring enrollees to submit waivers: January 30, 2012
  • Deadline for Part - Time students and dependants: January 30, 2012

Coverage Costs and Policies

New Students Enrolling in the Spring 2012 Semester 

All new NYU-Poly students (undergraduate and graduate) for the Spring 2012 semester who are enrolled in 9 or more credits will automatically be enrolled in the school-sponsored health insurance plan. The fee for this plan will be placed on your tuition bill. Coverage will begin on January 1, 2012, and end on August 24, 2012. The semester fees are $474. All international students are required to be on the school-sponsored plan regardless of the number of credits enrolled in for the semester and MUST print their insurance cards by January 30, 2012.

Remember your health insurance is provided by Combined Insurance and your Pharmacy plan is provided by Medco. If you have questions regarding your enrollment, your card, or the plan, please contact Malinda Townsend of Collegiate Insurance Resources at 1-800-322-9901 for assistance.

Waiving Health Insurance (DOMESTIC STUDENTS ONLY)
If you have private insurance with comparable coverage, you have until January 30, 2012 to waive the school plan by going to waiving health insurance. Applying for a waiver does not automatically waive you out of the plan. You will be contacted by the insurance carrier if there are questions regarding your waiver. If you do not waive by January 30, 2012 deadline, you will be responsible for the fee.

Continuing Students

International Students
You are REQUIRED to enroll in the school-sponsored plan as part of your enrollment at NYU-Poly regardless of your number of credits enrolled in for the semester. You will be charged $364 for the spring 2012 semester. You must print your updated insurance card by January 30, 2012.

Students Who Enrolled in the Health Insurance Plan for Fall 2011
All NYU-Poly students (undergraduate and graduate) who enrolled in the student health insurance for the fall 2011 semester will continue to be enrolled until August 24, 2012. You have been charged $368 for the Fall 2011 semester and will be charged $364 for the Spring 2012 semester.

Part-Time Domestic Students Newly Enrolled for Spring 2012
For domestic students enrolled in fewer than nine credits, school-sponsored insurance is optional. If you do not want coverage, you do not have to do anything. If you would like to enroll online. The fee for Spring 2012 part-time students is $610 for coverage from January 1, 2012 to August 24, 2012.

Spouses and Children
If you're enrolled in the NYU-Poly-sponsored insurance plan, you may also enroll your dependent children (up to and including 19 years) or spouses who reside with you. To enroll dependents, you must enroll online by January 30, 2012.

Non-Insurance Discount Program

A voluntary discount program is available to all NYU-Poly students. It provides students, and those within their household, with discounts on the following services: vision care, dental care, prescription drugs, chiropractic care, alternative medicine, hearing services, vitamins and nutritional supplements, and a national fitness program. Discounts range from 10-50% depending upon the services utilized. The annual cost is $29. Again, this is a discount program and is not health insurance. Dental Care

Through our affiliation with NYU, the College of Denistry Stu-Dent plan is now available to NYU-Poly students. This program is not associated with the NYU-Poly student health insurance plan.

It provides treatment at convenient times and in a convenient location, making it easy to fit dental care into your busy schedule. Its low enrollment fee is less than it would cost to visit us just once for a check-up, cleaning, and x-ray.
