Is it possible to create electricity out of normal room temperature? A NJ company, Syrdec, thinks it is. They believe that this can be accomplished by altering the natural energy state in a specially developed battery (a technology made possible by nuclear fusion research) and making use of the Seebeck effect. When materials at different temperature levels are put close together, electricity can be generated from their interaction. (This is the Seebeck effect.) The material in the battery would absorb heat from the environment and convert it into electricity. At first glance, this seems like the ultimate in green energy. Unfortunately, though the battery would create energy from just sitting around, manufacturing it would be quite energy intensive. Read more in Cnet News.com.
