About the Position

Reporting to the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations, the CFR Development Officer serves as a representative of NYU-Poly while building long-term internal and external relationships that result in qualitative corporate and foundation engagement and financial support. He/she manages a portfolio of donors and executes long-range and short-range fund raising goals and strategies.
 

Responsibilities

Fundraising Responsibilities:

  • Identify, prioritize, manage and grow a portfolio of existing and new corporate and foundation prospects and donors from cultivation through solicitation; with a focus on gifts ranging in size from $25,000 to $250,000.
  • Conduct in-person and phone meetings with corporate contacts and alumni; attend corporate briefings and meetings with current allies and prospective partners.
  • Oversee the collection of information about current and potential partners through online and print research, identify and qualify corporation and foundation business and philanthropic interests, and giving capacity with interests that align with the Institute’s programs and priorities.
  • Coordinate meetings with and presentations to corporate and foundation partners and prospects, including preparing concept briefs, PowerPoint presentations and other materials that may be needed.
  • Solicit corporate sponsorships and manage sponsorship benefit packages for signature institutionally-prioritized events, competitions and academic symposia.
  • Manage the development and implementation of strategies for cultivating and soliciting prospects.
  • Write and/or edit proposals that meet the interests and needs of the funders.

Events & Stewardship Responsibilities:

  • Strategically plan and manage events and roundtables on campus in coordination with key faculty members that effectively identify new prospects and further cultivate existing donors.
  • Liaise with other departments to promote additional engagement opportunities through recruitment, sponsored research, and enterprise learning, for prospective and current corporate partners.
  • Supervise the stewardship activities between the Institute and partner corporations and foundations and ensure that all required progress reports are submitted on time and to the funders’ stated preferences.
  • Identify and act on opportunities to engage and inform current and potential corporate and foundation partners, such as sending reports and press releases, hosting student and/or faculty luncheons, site visits, or special events or roundtables.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Actively support the Director and senior staff with special projects and events as assigned.
  • Train and supervise student workers to support the work of the CFR team and entire department.
  • Coordinate with front-line fundraisers to engage alumni and individual prospects in leveraging their corporate relationships.

 

Education Requirements

Bachelors degree and 4-7 years experience (or equivalent of education plus experience) in a fundraising and/or non-profit or academic institution, with specific experience in grant writing and reporting and event planning.

Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of The Raiser’s Edge and/or Advance preferred. Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication and organization skills. Ability to adapt and respond to various situations and maintain high level of organization and confidentiality. Experience working in a fast-paced professional environment and the flexibility to adapt to a changing department are vital. Commitment to professionalism and a grand sense of humor.
