Program Changes and New I-20’s &DS-2019’s
- Students who intend to change their degree programs ( from BS to MS, from MS to PhD from PhD to MS, from BS to combined BS/MS etc.) are required to obtain permission, approval and a new I-20/DS-2019 from the Office of International Students and Scholars, before beginning a new program. Approvals and changes made directly with the registrar without prior approval from the OISS are not sufficient to maintain F-1 student status.
- Any student who enrolls in a new program without prior permission from OISS and a new I-20/DS-2019 will be in violation of immigration rules and out of status. Please note that immigration rules do not allow us to make retroactive changes. You should plan such changes carefully and all requests and approvals must be made before the beginning of the period for which the change is requested.
- ou are also required to obtain permission from the Office of International Students and Scholars and a new I-20/DS2019 for any of the following:
- Change of major: For example, if you are changing from Chemical Engineering to Electrical Engineering. All such requests must be made before enrollment in the new program.
