On the basis of an English composition placement test evaluated by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, most students are placed in one of the standard freshman courses (EN 1014 or EN 1034), some may be exempted and placed in EN 1204, the second required course of the sequence, others may first be required to take one or more semesters of an introductory course in English (EN 1080 or EN 1090) with a reduced course load (a maximum of 14 credits)
