Polytechnic Institute of NYU, Class of 2007
High School: Adelphi Academy, Class of 2003
Bay Ridge, Brooklyn
I came to Polytechnic Institute of NYU from a small, private school of approximately 120 students. With my future open before me, I did not know what to expect from my new surroundings. I never could have anticipated all of the opportunities that NYU-Poly would come to afford me. I am currently pursuing a dual-degree; a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and a Master of Science in Digital Media. Throughout my college career, I have exceeded my initial expectations, and have several new goals for myself along the way.
The student-centered, Honors College environment has granted me the opportunity to participate in several projects not only piqued my interests, but were enriching to my future career goals. Along with a handful of my fellow Honors College students, I was awarded the opportunity to design and launch the first official Honors College website, along with the first interactive CD illustrating the life inside and outside of the Honors College classroom. I also served as the Photo Editor to Polytechnics student-produced magazine, Fusion: Tech Life. There were also several other contributions I was able to make to the publication that devoted itself to the discussion of research, technology and opinion.
At the present time I am attending classes for my aforementioned MS. My Thesis project is the designing and development of a multi-screen networked media player for immersive environments. This would allow synchronized video, audio and 3D environments to be displayed on multiple networked machines. The project is a combination of human interface design, graphic design, 3D, networking, programming and many other factors; a true interdisciplinary project. The inspiration and drive behind the project is the site of the Polytechnic Hall of Fame, where visitors find themselves immersed in a 9-screen, multi-media forum. I have been involved in the design and layout of the Hall of Fame audio-visual component since the project’s infancy, and I am proud to continue to develop immersive content for the space.
It is truly an honor to be part of the first graduating class of the Honors College at Polytechnic Institute of NYU. I have found more than I ever expected here at the Honors College: academically, proficiently and socially. I relish the opportunity to remain a part of the University’s bright and budding future as a proud alumnus.
