1. How are students admitted to the Honors College?
Participation in the Honors College is by invitation. Students admitted to NYU-Poly who meet Honors College admissions criteria are invited to apply and to come to NYU-Poly for a personal interview.
2. What are the admissions criteria?
Preference is given to students with a GPA of 90 or higher and SAT scores of 1350 or higher. However, candidates are selected to interview based on a comprehensive review of their application materials. Other criteria include difficulty of course work (AP and IB courses), reputation of the high school, letters of recommendation, receipt of prizes and awards, participation in the Siemens Westinghouse Science and Technology competition and/or the Intel Science Talent Search, leadership positions, participation in academic clubs, and evidence of ability to overcome obstacles.
3. Does the Honors College accept transfer students?
No, the Honors College only accepts incoming Polytechnic freshmen.
4. Does it cost more to be in the Honors College at Poly?
No, undergraduate tuition is the same for all undergraduates.
5. Is it possible to get both a Bachelors and a Masters degree in four years?
It is possible to earn both degrees within a four year time frame. It requires careful planning and going to school during some summers.
6. Does it cost more to get both the Bachelors and the Masters degree?
No, under the Honors College program, Honors students have the ability to take both undergraduate and graduate courses and not pay more than the regular undergraduate tuition. In essence, it is possible to receive both a bachelors degree and a masters degree for the price of an undergraduate education.
