The following is a brief profile of the current General Studies Students along with their thoughts on being at Polytechnic and participating in the program:
 |
Steven Beauvais
Graduated from: Nyack High School
Intended Major: Civil Engineering
“Being a Polytechnic Institute of NYU student is very important to me because I know that this is where the road to my career begins. I think that a degree from this school is more meaningful than from any other school because of the effort involved. I believe that Polytechnic Institute of NYU will prepare me academically and will help me succeed in obtaining my career goals...” |
 |
Sabine Blair
Graduated from: Elmont Memorial Sr. High School
Intended Major: Computer Engineering
“Polytechnic Institute of NYU was my first choice of colleges; I was highly honored and gracious to be accepted into a private school for engineering through the General Studies Program…GS has provided me with counseling, tutoring, and ways of improving my academic performance and study habits…GS has not only better prepared me as a student but as a person overall.” |
 |
William Cheng
Graduated from: Murray Bergtraum
Intended Major: Technical and Professional Communication
“Throughout my academic career I have always dreamed of being a student at Polytechnic Institute of NYU… Even though I was a bit disappointed that I was admitted to NYU-Poly as a General Studies student, which would require me to attend a summer program, I found that I really benefited from the summer classes; it helped to prepare me for the curriculum here at Poly. As a GS student I feel that I have an advantage over most of the regular admits due to the services that are offered within the GS program. |
 |
Keisha Coombs
Graduated from: South Shore High School
Intended Major: Mechanical Engineering
“Being in the General Studies Program has been a really good opportunity for me because it made me better prepared for what I was going to go through in the regular semester. Giving up my summer at first was not cool, but it pays off afterwards. The summer program included extra tutoring programs for us and it is a really good motivational program. The people involved really care about your success and it shows. It makes you want to do better. All in all General Studies is a really good program to get into…” |
 |
Davy Cremona
Graduated from: Academy Of American Studies
Intended Major: Electrical Engineering
“ I think that it was good to be in the GS Program. Being in the GS Program has helped me because if I had came here in the Fall with out the Program I would have been lost; I wouldn’t have known what to do and where to go. The GS program has helped me become familiar with the NYU-Poly experience in every way…” |
 |
Judith Cummings
Graduated from: Easton Area High School
Intended Major: Computer Engineering
“ Initially as a General Studies student, I thought that we were different from everyone else and that our difference would have a negative affect on us. On the contrary, being a General Studies student has motivated me to prove to everyone that GS students can excel in every aspect at this Institution. NYU-Poly has been the school of my dreams ever since I laid eyes on the website, and I thank General Studies for giving me the opportunity to prove that I am ready for Polytechnic workload…” |
 |
Robert Golightly
Graduated from: East New York H S Transit Tech
Intended Major: Mechanical Engineering
“ To be a Polytechnic student is hard work. You have to be devoted to your classes, and live up to the hype. Coming to NYU-Poly and the General Studies Program makes you ready for extreme competition. Besides intelligence, at NYU-Poly you need strong time management skills. There is a time for everything, if you manage your time wisely.” |
 |
LeVar Gordon
Graduated from: Central High School
Intended Major: Mechanical Engineering
“…I’ve wanted to be a mechanical engineer for as long as I can remember. Getting into a school with an engineer focus was a welcomed opportunity for me. I believe the GS program is helping to prepare me for the heavy work load to come, while giving me a place where I can talk to someone…” |
 |
Lawrenberg Hanson
Graduated from: Aquinas High School
Intended Major: Electrical/Computer Engineering
“ When I first entered General Studies over the summer I wasn’t too happy because it felt like I failed in school and had to make up for it in summer school, a place I’ve never been. However, as I went through the summer in the GS program, I saw how important it was to attend. I was able to learn my way around the school plus I was able to keep an academic mindset…I am proud to be a NYU-Poly student and I don’t regret applying here…” |
 |
Danielle Jean
Graduated from: Aviation High School
Intended Major: Electrical Engineering
“Being a part of the GS program has been an interesting experience for me. Having the opportunity to study at NYU-Poly has increased my knowledge of the engineering field and what is required to be successful. The GS program is like a support system helping you when you need it… I am proud to be a NYU-Poly student and a member of the women’s basketball team …” |
 |
Rejep Kolaroj
Graduated from: Curtis High School

“When I entered Polytechnic Institute of NYU via the General Studies program I initially thought that the summer program was a waste of time. I started to consider attending another college to play football. However after talking with my parents, I decided that being at NYU-Poly was the best thing for me. I am glad that I talked with my parents and decided to stay in the GS program…” |
 |
William Lai
Graduated from: Forest Hills High School
Intended Major: Computer Engineering
“I entered the GS program with an open mind; I wanted to see how it would help me as a NYU-Poly student. Once the Fall semester began, I realized how much the summer helped to prepare me for the NYU-Poly curriculum. Having tutoring for my first year, has helped me handle the workload from my classes…”

|
Nathifa Perez
Graduated from: Park West High School
Intended Major: Biomolecular Sciences
“… In life things may not turn out the way you planned; for the most part that seems to always be the case with things in my life. College was no exception to that rule. While NYU-Poly wasn’t my first choice, it was far from being my last choice. When I heard that the only way to be accepted was through General Studies, I felt like I was being kicked in the stomach again. I mean first I wasn’t accepted to my first choice and then here I had to fight for my acceptance to Poly. In the end I got accepted and once I got here it wasn’t what I expected. All I know is that while I’m here I’m going to do my best. You have to make the best of what ever is thrown at you and I am going to make sure that I take full advantage of this opportunity …”

Hector Saavedra
Graduated from: High School Of Art & Design
Intended Major: Computer Engineering
“ I was glad to be accepted to Polytechnic Institute of NYU through the GS program. I was given the opportunity to show everyone that I can succeed, despite what the standardized test called SAT told other colleges. The GS program gives me the help that I need to improve as a student. I am proud to be a GS student” |
|
Anthony Sewell
Graduated from: Bayard Rustin Humanities HS

“…Yeah, I thought it was every man for themselves, but I learned that we worked as a team in the GS program. I actually feel motivated to do well not because others are telling me I should, but because I want to; I believe that I can be successful here at Poly...” |
|
Kelvin Torres
Graduated from: Thomas R Proctor Senior H S
Intended Major: Computer Engineering
“… Polytechnic Institute of NYU was my first college choice. At first, I didn’t see myself getting into such a good school like Poly. But thanks to the General Studies program and the seven-week summer program, I was able to prove myself academically capable for admission to Polytechnic Institute of NYU. Receiving a NYU-Poly degree would mean a lot not only to me but to my parents, since I am a first generation college student…” |
