Grants and scholarships are "free money" that does not have to be repaid that you may qualify for based upon financial need or academic merit. There are several types of grants and scholarships as follows: Institutional, Federal and State.

I. Institutional Grants and Scholarships
Polytechnic Institute of NYU offers a wide range of institutionally funded grants and scholarships. Eligibility for academic scholarships are determined at the time you enter the university based upon your academic credentials. Scholarships are renewable annually while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or 3.0 depending upon the scholarship you were awarded. Eligibility for the Polytechnic need-based grant is determined from the FAFSA, and renewable annually according to financial need.

II. Federal Grants
There are two primary federally funded grants which you may be eligible for: Pell and Seog. Both grants are need-based and will be automatically awarded once you have completed the FAFSA, and demonstrate financial eligibility.

III. State Grants and Scholarships
There are three primary New York State grant and scholarship programs: TAP, HEOP and Merit Scholarship. For all awards, you must be a New York State resident attending a school within New York State. To receive funding through the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), you must be accepted to the HEOP program at the time of admission to the university. TAP awards are need-based and require a separate application. The application process is outlined in a later section. The Merit Scholarship is automatically awarded based upon your high school average and SAT scores.
