In order to receive institutional grants, federal grants, state grants or student loans for the upcoming year, you must complete the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is required each year to renew your financial aid awards.
The recommended renewal date for the 2008-09 academic year is March 14, 2008. If you are currently receiving a Polytechnic Grant, SEOG, Perkins Loan or Polytechnic Loan, you must complete the 2008-2009 FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA by March 14, 2008. All of the above mentioned aid is awarded on a "first-come, first-serve basis." Those students applying after March 14, 2008 will be considered "late applicants" and will be subject to reduced awards.
The FAFSA is available to you online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. It is recommended that you use actual 2007 federal tax return information when completing the FAFSA. Therefore, you and/or your parents should complete your 2007 federal tax returns prior to March 14, 2008. When completing the FAFSA form, please make sure that you complete all required sections of the form, including the following:
- Make sure you and your parents sign your FAFSA electronically, if you have a U.S. Department of Education PIN. If you do not have a PIN, you can obtain one by going to www.pin.ed.gov
- Enter Polytechnic Institute of NYU's federal school code (002796) on the FAFSA, along with your residency status for the upcoming academic year (on-campus, commuter, etc).
- Indicate your state residency information for yourself, and your parents. This information is required to apply for the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).
Within 2-4 weeks of completing the FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the U.S. Department of Education. Retain the SAR for your records. This form will summarize all of the information on your FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA. At the same time, Polytechnic Institute of NYU will receive an electronic version of the SAR, which is the Institutional Student Information Report (ISIR). Upon review of the ISIR by the Office of Financial Aid, you will be notified if additional documentation is needed to finalize your aid folder. |
