Profile

Edward K. Wong received his B.E. degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook (1979), his M.Sc degree from Brown University (1981), and his Ph.D. degree from Purdue University (1986), all in Electrical Engineering. Since September 1986, he has been with the Department of Computer Science at Polytechnic Institute of NYU, where he is currently an associate professor. His research interests include computer vision, pattern recognition and image analysis. He has published numerous journal and conference articles and book chapters in these areas. Sample research projects include fingerprint verification, medical cell image analysis, morphological image processing, infrared target classification, three-dimensional object recognition, pavement image analysis, and character recognition. His research in these areas had been supported by the National Science Foundation, the New York State Science and Technology Foundation, the New York State Center for Advanced Technology in Telecommunications, and medical centers and industries. He has taught graduate courses in computer vision, computer graphics, and expert systems. He has also been a technical consultant to some local companies,and has held a summer research position at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. Dr. Wong is a member of ACM, IEEE,Pattern Recognition Society, Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu and Sigma Xi.
