Profile

Fred Strauss received his B.S. in E.E. (Computer Science) from Arizona State University and his M.S. from Polytechnic Institute of NYU (Brooklyn Poly). He has done advanced studies at University of Southern California in Systems Management and Computer Science at Polytechnic Institute of NYU.

His areas of research are software engineering, project management, system integration and management of software development organizations. He developed the Software Engineering and Distributed Processing Laboratories at Polytechnic Institute of NYU and for software grants from ABT Corporation and Rational Software. He is a member of the IEEE, ACM, AITP, voting member of the IEEE Software Engineering Standards Committee.

He is also the Director for CIS programs and the Long Island Graduate Center, where he is responsible for recruiting and advising graduate students. As member of LIA, LIST, LISTNet, AITP he has been instrumental in solidifying Polytechnic's partnership with Long Island industry and commerce. As an active member he servers on many committees of these organizations.

Professor Strauss spent many years in industry and in his own business with extensive information technology focus. He has worked at AT&T, New York Telephone, and Bell Laboratories. He was responsible for systems applications development, technical support, strategic planning, and sales and marketing of integrated computer and data communications products.

Prior to Polytechnic Institute of NYU he was a Professor at Dowling College where he taught CIS and MBA related IT courses. He taught extensively as an adjunct professor at Polytechnic Institute of NYU, Biarcliffe College, and NYIT where he taught Project Management courses. He has served as a member of the advisory board of several educational institutions. He is a mediator and professional coach.
