Profile

Robert J. Flynn is an Industry Professor of Computer Science based at the Westchester facility. His research interests include computer organization, memory hierarchies, input/output systems and operating systems issues associated with application intensive machines. Recent and current thesis students have worked in the areas of synchronous interleaved disk drives with application to FFTs, locality in a distributed physical memory system with a shared virtual address space, file systems for hypercube machines, memory management unit designs for massive physical main memories, disk clustering algorithms for object oriented data base systems and genetic algorithms in a distributed network. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from Polytechnic. He has received 3 distinguished teaching awards, including the designation of Institute Distinguished Teacher.
