The world is changing, and it’s clear that we need to change with it.

More than half the world’s population now lives in urban areas, and by 2030 that number is expected to rise to at least 60 percent. The U.N. predicts that by then, one in three people will reside in cities with at least half a million inhabitants.




NYU Tandon is dedicated to harnessing the power of urban informatics to make sure cities are smart and sustainable, and we’re constantly finding ways to produce cleaner energy, greener methods of manufacturing, better public transportation systems, and more resilient infrastructure. Because when more than half of the people on the planet live in urban areas, it’s important that those areas be livable.
