The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Polytechnic University has a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research, starting with the inception of the EE programs at "Brooklyn Poly" in 1885. The department rose to prominence in the mid-Twentieth Century for work in microwaves, communications, electrical machinery, and automatic control. Current research and degree programs focus on:
- Telecommunications (including Wireless and High-Speed Integrated Networks)
- Digital Signal Processing (including still and video image processing)
- Computer Engineering
- Control and Robotics
- Electrical Power Systems
- Electromagnetics & Microwaves
- Electrophysics of materials (especially plasmas)
