The History

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Polytechnic University has a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research, starting with the inception of the EE programs at "Brooklyn Poly" in 1885. The department rose to prominence in the mid-Twentieth Century for work in microwaves, communications, electrical machinery, and automatic control.  Current research and degree programs focus on:

• Telecommunications (including Wireless and High-Speed Integrated Networks)
• Digital Signal Processing (including still and video image processing)
• Computer Engineering
• Control and Robotics
• Electrical Power Systems
• Electromagnetics & Microwaves
• Electrophysics of materials (especially plasmas)

• A Paper of Professor Yong Liu and his colleagues from CIS department was awarded the 2008 Best Paper in Multimedia Communications by the IEEE Communications Society
• Professor Elza Erkip's 2 Papers are in the list of Top 10 accessed documents of IEEE Transactions on Communications
• Professor Zhong-Ping Jiang was honored IEEE Fellow from 2008
