Cyber Security Awareness Week

Research Award

Open to: high school, undergraduate, and graduate students located in the continental U.S.
Registration deadline:
October 10, 2009
Submission deadlines: Abstracts due October 10; Final posters due from finalists October 31 (see below for submission details)

Student researchers are encouraged to submit poster abstracts covering recent or ongoing research or experience in all areas relating to the application of security technology, the implementation of systems, and lessons learned. Posters that have been reviewed and accepted will be presented by one of the authors during the CSAW research poster session and will compete for the CSAW Research Award. We also encourage submissions by student authors of recent papers in related areas published since September 2008.

Prizes

Master of Science scholarships for students who attend NYU-Poly:
  • 1st place: $5,000
  • 2nd place: $3,000
  • 3rd place: $3,000
Cash prizes for winners: 
  • 1st place: $500
  • 2nd place: $250
  • 3rd place: $100

Travel Grants

Each finalist will receive a travel grant to offset the cost of attending the awards ceremony, where the first-, second-, and third-place place winners will be announced, along with a bonus prize winner. Finalists must be present at the awards ceremony to redeem their prizes.

Rules

  • Entries can be a product of the student's coursework, research, or area of interest
  • Entries cannot be a result of paid employment
  • The main author of the poster must be a currently enrolled student
  • One poster may be entered per main author
  • Finalist posters have to be presented by one of the authors during the CSAW research poster session on Awards Day
  • Papers accompanied by disclosure agreement forms will not be considered. All submissions will be treated as public.

Judging Criteria

All submissions will be judged on originality, relevance, correctness, and presentation. In addition to citing relevant published work, authors should relate their submission to any other relevant submissions of theirs in other venues that are under review at the same time as their submission to the symposium.

Submission Details

Abstract: Please submit the title and abstract of your conference paper, full citation, and a link to the published version to csaw_research@isis.poly.edu by October 10

Posters (for finalists only): You will need to include the name and logo of the sponsoring educational institution. The poster dimensions: 36" x 25" (+/-5"). Authors of accepted posters will be sent further information about how to prepare and format posters for the finals of the competition.
