TECHNICAL REPORTS FAQS
If you would like to publish a technical report, please read the following rules and instructions. All reports will be made available on the CIS web site in PDF format. Note that paper copies with official (looking) covers will only be produced on explici t request.
1. Who can author CIS Technical Reports?
Technical reports can be produced by anybody associated with our department as faculty, student, postdoc, or long-term visiting researcher. For reports authored by undergraduate or MS students, the request should be made by a nominating faculty member thr ough an email. For reports authored by PhD students, this is usually not necessary (though we reserve the right to check the request with the advisor).
2. What should be published as a Technical Report?
The main criterium is that the material should be of some potential interest to people outside our department. Material suitable for Technical Reports include:
- expanded and revised versions of conference publications, other unpublished results of interest to the outside, such as papers under journal submission, or results or notes that may not merit publication as a full conference paper, PhD dissertations: we suggest that all students submit their dissertations as technical reports, outstanding senior and MS projects, upon recommendation by the relevant faculty member, outstanding survey papers or course project papers written by students, upon recommendation by the relevant faculty member,
- lecture notes or teaching materials of innovative course.
3. How can I produce a Technical Report?
Send a request, together with (a) a PDF version of your paper and (b) an ASCII file containing the title, authors and an abstract, to webmaster@cis.poly.edu. If for some reason you need a few paper copies with official (looking) covers, send a request to the same address, or make your own copy by printing the front cover page and the back cover page on cardboard paper on a color printer.
