GENERAL INFORMATION
Information Technology plays a critical role in today's economy and workplace. Computer Science provides the technical foundation for Information Technology and its many applications. Job opportunities in Computer Science are challenging and diverse, and the demand for highly qualified graduates at all levels is expected to be strong over the next decade.
The CSE Department at Polytechnic Institute of NYU offers a Master's program leading to the MS in Computer Science. Students can take courses either on a full-time or part-time basis, with all masters-level courses offered in the evening. The Master's curriculum has been designed for maximum flexibility, and includes fundamental courses in computer science as well as electives in specialized advanced courses on topics including computer and network security, distributed systems and networking, computer graphics, databases, and web search technology. By electing the masters-thesis option, students may also pursue research with faculty members who are internationally recognized in their fields.
The department has particular strength in the computer security area. Polytechnic was among the first institutions nationwide to be recognized as a Center of Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency. Students taking a set of approved courses qualify for NSA Information Systems Security Certification. In addition, the department is one of the selective few in the country to offer the cyber corps scholarships to students pursuing a focus of study in cyber security. The department also offers several other programs related to information technology, including a Certificate in Cyber Security, a Certificate in Software Engineering and MS programs in Information Systems Engineering and Systems Integration.
