Resumes and Cover Letters

A resume is a powerful marketing tool. Design a resume that will persuade a potential employer to bring you in for an interview. Use a cover letter to fill in the blanks from your resume and set yourself apart from other candidates.

Refer to this sample cover letter and resume and this guide to getting started. Remember that your cover letter and resume should be personalized and tailored to each position. Career counselors are available to review your resume and cover letter by appointment or during walk-in hours.

Mentor Network

The Mentor Network helps students explore careers by linking them with alumni and other professionals who have expressed an interest in helping students gain valuable information about industries and potential careers. This can be in the form of informational interviews, phone appointments, job shadowing, or e-mail exchanges. This is an informational tool to help students learn about jobs, organizations, or areas of interest.

Resume Book Collection

Each semester, the The Wasserman Center for Career Development at NYU-Poly reviews and collects student resumes. These resumes are compiled into collections by industry and distributed to hundreds of employers. Procedures, guidelines, and additional information are available here.
