Polytechnic Institute of NYU has not only a great history in academics with numerous Nobel Prize winners, inventiors and patent holders butr we also have a long history of Athletics. In basketball, Polytechnic Institute of NYU and Pratt Institute have one of the oldest rivalries in college basketball history. Dating back to 1904, this game was played at the Old Madison Square Garden in the 1940's, the Brooklyn Armory in the 1950's and the Meadowlands in the 1980's. Polytechnic ws one of the founders of the Independent Athletic Conference (IAC), which existed from 1973 to 1996. In fact, the Fighting Blue Jays were IAC Baseball Champions in 1980 and Cross Country Champions in 1981. Over the past 25 years we have won numerous titles in judo including a member of the Polytechnic Judo Team representing the USA at the 1996 Maccabiah games in Israel helping the USA team win 3rd place. The Polytechnic Men's Volleyball team won the HVMAC (Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference) 2002-2004 and our Men's Basketball team captured the HVMAC crown in 2003 and 2004. Our newly formed women's basketball team won the HVWAC invitational in 2004. In the Fall of 2004 Polytechnic Institute of NYU joined a new conference called NEAC (North Eastern Athletic Conference). This is much larger and more competitive conference with 12 schools spread throughout three states. This new conference will give us an automatic bid to the NCAA championships if we are conference champions. Polytechnic Institute of NYU's Athletic programs are growing larger and becoming more competitive. In the Fall 2005 Polytechnic will sponsor 13 Varsity sports: Men's and Women's Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Soccer, Cross Country, Judo, Men's Baseball and Women's Softball.
We presently are a member of NEAC (North Eastern Athletic Conference); NECVA (North Eastern Collegiate Volleyball Association) and USJI (United States Judo, Inc.).
