Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering on campus, providing on-site opportunities for students at your employer, or representing Polytechnic in your community are three of the most significant contributions you can make as a Polytechnic alumni. Being involved with your alma mater is something that can make a big difference.

Admissions

Polytechnic Alumni Admissions volunteers serve a number of important roles. Depending on your time availability and interest level, you can help represent Polytechnic at College Fairs and College Night programs, either with an admissions staff representative or by yourself, help identify qualified potential students, answer career questions from accepted students, or help host admissions related events. Alumni can also take part in on-campus admissions events including tours, open house, and special major based programs. For more information regarding being an Alumni Admissions Volunteer contact Donald Ivanoff, Director of Alumni Relations (718-260-3885, divanoff@poly.edu).

Annual Giving (Polytechnic Fund)

Alumni support to the university through the annual giving program, also known as the Polytechnic Fund, is vital to the success of the university. The fund helps with both scholarships and operational support on an annual basis. Alumni volunteers help in a number of important ways. We need alumni who would like to call their classmates and/or others from their major, become letter-writers, or help coordinate special fund raising appeals. Discover the world of philanthropy! For more information regarding being involved in the annual giving program please contact Donald Ivanoff, Director of Alumni Relations (718-260-3885, divanoff@poly.edu).

Athletics

Even after your playing days are over, it's possible to still be involved with a team. The Office of Athletics and Recreation offers a number of opportunities for volunteers to help support our NCAA Division III athletics program. Alumni can help teams by contacting out of the area alumni about cheering for the Blue Jays at away games or by becoming "booster clubs" for teams, both home and away. Volunteers are also needed for the annual athletics phonathon and the annual golf tournament. There are a number of volunteer assistant coaching positions available to support our teams. For more information regarding which teams NYU-Poly current offers visit the Athletics section of the NYU-Poly web site. To become an athletic volunteer, contact Donald Ivanoff, Director of Alumni Relations (718-260-3885, divanoff@poly.edu) or Maureen Braziel, Director of Athletics (718-260-3458, mbraziel@poly.edu).

Career Services

The Office of Career Services has a wide range of ways that Alumni Volunteers can assist our students. From helping a student select a career path, to helping a student to make the right decision regarding a job offer, alumni can help. Alumni can also be instrumental in arranging corporate tours, site visits, and internship and co-op opportunities. For more details, contact Donald Ivanoff, Director of Alumni Relations (718-260-3885, divanoff@poly.edu) or Sunil Gupta, Director of Career Services (718-260-3650, sgupta@poly.edu).

Reunions

Each year, Polytechnic Institute of NYU sponsors a number of reunions for alumni. The 50th reunion of graduating is the "Golden Jubilee" and is an important campus tradition. Other reunions are held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the POLYTECHNIC ALUMNI. The 10th, 25th, 30th, 40th and 60th anniversary classes usually have some sort of reunion celebration. None of them, however, would be possible without volunteers. If you would like to volunteer to help make your reunion a truly special event, please contact Donald Ivanoff, Director of Alumni Relations (718-260-3885, divanoff@poly.edu). Reunions have also been organized for other groups, organizations, and sports teams. Contact us if you have an idea for a reunion.

Sections and Chapters

There are sections and chapters of the POLYTECHNIC ALUMNI around the world and they are looking for additional volunteers. Typical sections are led by a coordinating committee of 5 - 7 alumni and sponsor 3 events a year (some are more active, some are less). New sections can be formed if a review determines that there is enough support and interest in a geographic area. For more information about getting involved in section related events, contact Donald Ivanoff, Director of Alumni Relations (718-260-3885, divanoff@poly.edu).

Student Organizations

Clubs, Organizations, Societies, Groups; whatever you call them, they could use your support and expertise. There are currently over 40 organizations at NYU-Poly who would love to have involvement on the part of former members. If you have a desire to meet our current students, this is an excellent opportunity for involvement. Groups need guest speakers for meetings, technical help on projects, and would love to have alumni attend some of their social and cultural programs. For more information, contact Donald Ivanoff, Director of Alumni Relations (718-260-3885, divanoff@poly.edu) or Cheryl McNear, Director of Student Development (718-260-3800, cmcnear@poly.edu).
