Undergraduate Admissions

International Students

Because of the substantial delays we continue to experience in sending and receiving documents through the mail to addresses outside the United States, all students who reside outside the United States are strongly encouraged to apply online.

Tips for Applying

Personal Information: Please ensure that your family/surname and your first/given name as well as your date of birth (Month/Day/Year) are listed correctly on your application and on all submitted documents. Your name and date of birth should match what is on your passport.

Citizenship: On your application, list the country/countries in which you are citizen. Also, be sure to indicate your immigration status if you are currently residing in the United States.

Email Address and Telephone: Provide an electronic mailing address and telephone number on your application. Please let us know of any changes in your name, address, email, or telephone number by emailing us at uadmit@poly.edu.

Mailing Address: On your application, list clearly the specific address where you would want the I-20 form mailed. If possible, include street number, city, province, state/country, and zip code. Please let us know of any changes in your mailing address by emailing us at uadmit@poly.edu.

Major: In order for an I-20 form to be issued, a student must declare a major on his/her application. Please choose an area of study which is of most interest to you. You will have the opportunity to change this major once you arrive to campus.

Application Fee: International applicants are required to submit $80.00, payable to the "Polytechnic Institute of NYU."

Academic Credentials

The Polytechnic Institute of New York University requires an official record of secondary school education from all applicants. If a comprehensive transcript is not available, you must submit examination grades and/or predicted scores (For example: O Levels, A Levels, predicted IB Scores) for review. All documents submitted for review must be official; that is, they must be either originals or copies certified by authorized persons. (A "certified" copy is one that bears either an original signature of the registrar or other designated school official or an original impression of the institution's seal.) Uncertified copies are not acceptable. If these official documents are in a foreign language, we strongly prefer they be accompanied by an official English translation from an accredited translation agency.

NYU-Poly cannot assume responsibility for the return of any documents you provide in support of your application for admission. You should not submit diplomas or original single copies of records that cannot be replaced.

Standardized Tests

All applicants are required to submit official score reports as follows:

  • The SAT Reasoning Test or;
  • The ACT (with Writing Test)
  • If your native language is not English, and if your primary language of instruction has not been English, you should also take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) to ascertain your English language proficiency. Information about the test may be secured by visiting the TOEFL web site.
  • In place of the TOEFL, you may submit scores from IELTS, the International English Language Testing System. Complete information on IELTS is available on the IELTS web site.
  • We do not have any minimum test score requirements, but our most competitive applicants score above 100 on the TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT) and 7.5 or above on the IELTS.

Certification of Finances

It is not necessary for you to submit financial documents with your application. Students who are offered admission and who pay the enrollment deposit can submit their Certification of Finances (COF) either through downloadable form or online. All non-U.S. Citizens and non-U.S. permanent residents must complete the COF forms and submit appropriate evidence of their ability to finance their education before certificates for student visas (Form I-20) or exchange visitor visas (Form DS-2019) can be issued.

If your studies are being financed by means of your own savings, parental support, outside private or government scholarships, or any combination of these, you must arrange to send official letters or similar certificates as proof of such support. Please be certain to include your name and date of birth on each document you submit as well as the address to which you would like us to send your I-20 Form.

Financial Aid

NYU-Poly offers merit scholarships to academically qualified international students. Need-based assistance is NOT available to non-US citizens or non-permanent residents.

International Transfer Students

If you are currently enrolled in another institute of higher education and you are looking to transfer to the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, please follow the directions for transfer applicants.

Applicants who have not yet completed university writing AND were not educated at an English speaking secondary school will also be required to submit their TOEFL scores in order to receive consideration for admission into NYU-Poly.
