Studying in the United States
Most international students will need an F-1 or J-1 visa in order to study in the United States. To qualify for an F-1 or J-1 visa, you must be academically admissible, show proof of English proficiency, and provide evidence of financial support to cover educational and living expenses for your NYU-Poly education.
F-1: This is the designation for a student visa and is the most frequently used visa classification for international students. To obtain an F-1 visa, students will need a Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status, also known as an I-20. Your F-1 visa will be sent upon completion of all international student admission requirements.
J-1: This visa classification is normally given to students who have educational, institutional, government, or professional sponsorship. To obtain a J-1 visa, students will need a Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor (J-1) Status, also known as an IAP-66. Your J-1 visa will be sent upon completion of all international student admission requirements.
Once you receive the appropriate form, you should apply for the corresponding visa stamp at the closest U.S. Consulate or Embassy.
Canadian Students
Canadian citizens entering the United States from Canada need only present the I-20 or IAP-66 and evidence of adequate funding for their studies as they enter the U.S.
Please note that once you have entered the United States with an I-20 or IAP-66 issued by NYU-Poly, you are required by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service to attend NYU-Poly.
