Information Technology plays a critical role in today's economy and workplace. Computer Science provides the technical foundation for Information Technology and its many applications. Job opportunities in Computer Science are challenging and diverse, and demand for highly qualified graduates at all levels is expected to be strong over the next decade.The CIS Department at Polytechnic Institute of NYU offers a Master program leading to the MS in Computer Science, as well as a strong research-oriented doctoral program. Students may choose either full-time or part-time evening study and can select their coursework from a set of strong basic graduate-level courses or take specialized advanced courses on topics such as computer and network security, distributed systems, computer graphics, databases, web search technology, plus many others. Students may also pursue research with faculty members that are nationally and internationally recognized in their fields. The department has particular strength in the computer security area. NYU-Poly was among the first institutions nationwide recognized as a Center of Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency, and students taking a set of approved course qualify for NSA Information Systems Security Certification. The department also participates in several other programs related to information technology, including a Certificate in Software Engineering and MS programs in Information Systems Engineering, Systems Integration, Computer Engineering, and Telecommunication Networks.
