Biotechnology & Entrepreneurship
NEW! - Starts in September 2007. This MS Program is designed for entrepreneurial life science and chemistry graduates and professionals who are looking to acquire the skills necessary for innovative product development and, ultimately, for launching their own high-tech businesses. This uniquely structured Program comprises three distinct but integrated and well-balanced elements: - A broad overview of cutting edge technology areas: biotechnology in the pharmaceutical and health care industry; biosensors, biochips and medical diagnostics; biocatalysis and biomaterials
- A series of courses on technology innovation, IP management, finances, marketing, business plan preparation, project management, technical writing and fund raising
- A Project (elective; up to 9 credits) designed to give students an opportunity to work with entrepreneurs at an early stage start-up or develop their own business ideas under the supervision of our distinguished faculty and management professionals.
The Program consists of required courses and electives. The four core biotechnology courses offer an in-depth look at a wide range of exciting topics, including the development of biotech drugs and health care products, biomedical diagnostics, and novel biomaterials-to name a few. These core courses explore the role of biotechnology in addressing important social issues such as health care, an aging population, and the energy crisis. Each core course features lectures by Poly faculty who are leading experts in the relevant areas, as well as lectures by invited industry professionals who will provide students with the inside track on product development, market trends, and the regulatory environment. The business content of the Program is designed to be as flexible as possible to enable students to "tailor" their education by selecting from a wide range of elective courses. And all of this is delivered within a flexible schedule that fits well with a student's personal circumstances and goals. A total of 30 credits is required for the degree, of which up to 9 credits may be awarded for the project. For further information about this program, contact biotech@poly.edu.
