Achievement Begins in our Classrooms

At Polytechnic, our graduate students are given opportunities that other schools don't offer. We encourage our students to take full advantage of everything our campuses have to offer. Whether it's helping research new wireless technologies on-campus, or being exposed to the latest technological breakthrough, a NYU-Poly graduate education represents both new opportunity and career advancement.

Below are profiles of our students explaining why they chose NYU-Poly and what thier NYU-Poly education has done for them.

Evangelia Antonokokis
'05 MS Financial Engineering
Financial Consultant

Evangelia Antonokokis"When looking to earn my Master's degree, I was interested in entering the field of risk management, so a Financial Engineering degree was exactly what I was looking for. I did a lot of research on the different programs that are available, and what I really liked about Polytechnic was the fact that the faculty had careers in the industry. Before I entered in the program, I didn't really have a background in finance, so the program was a tool that helped me enter the field that I was interested in. Now I can say that I definitely have the fundamental analytical and quantitative skills to help me excel. I currently work in the energy derivative field, and I'm a financial consultant."

Aditya Satghere
'05 MS Financial Engineering
Research Associate, Citigroup Asset Management

Aditya Satghere"I had a background in mechanical engineering, and I always wanted to enter the field of finance. I applied to Polytechnic and NYU. In weighing these programs, I felt the Polytechnic program had the edge because it's very market oriented. All of the faculty members are from the industry, working in the day and teaching after work. I think that's what gives us students an edge, as compared to other programs that are more academically oriented and mathematically focused, whereas Polytechnic is more market focused. That was the key reason that I chose Polytechnic.

I think the greatest advantage of the program is that most of my peers are working within the industry while going to school, and they share their experiences with the students. When you join the program, you don't know what's going to happen after you finish. When your peers already work in the industry, you know what to expect once you graduate. They were very helpful and supportive, but it is also a very competitive program, so we try to push each other in that way."

Reneta D. Lansiquot
'05 MS Integrated Digital Media
Working towards PhD

Reneta D. Lansiquot"I entered Polytechnic University as a Technical Communications graduate student, but within a short time, I gravitated towards the wonderful new Master of Science in Integrated Digital Media. Polytechnic has really allowed me to master and transform the next generation of knowledge and creative practice in a broad range of digital media. Small class sizes, projects geared specifically towards my strengths and goals, also factored into my decision to join this program."

Tom Sherman
MS in Management
Technical Sales Consultant, MCI

Tom Sherman"I came to Polytechnic expecting to stay within my chosen field, but looking to aquire the skills and knowledge to take my career to the next level. After careful consideration, I chose the Poly MSM degree because it would give me the tools to move up in my chosen field. I needed to match my already strong technical skills with an equally strong foundation in business.

I am pleased to say that The MS in Management program delivered on all levels. It provides a modern management framework with a strong technological focus. It was the perfect fit for my goals, and the part-time evening format perfectly accommodated my busy lifestyle - balancing work, family, and study."

Kristina Rociz
'04 MS in Organizational Behavior
Working towards PhD

Kristina Rociz"The students here at Polytechnic are great; they come from all over the world and everyone is very helpful during classes, and because most of our courses are project based, its beneficial to have such a diverse range of people - the work takes on a more informed global perspective. My research methods teacher is just one example of a large faculty that has been a great support to me. They are encouraging both during and after class, and help to connect you with other people and jobs, which is very important. With their help, I know I'll reach my professional goals: I want to be college professor, and ultimately run my own hotel."

Rudine Johnson
'04 MS in Organizational Behavior
Human Resource Rep., JP Morgan Chase

Rudine Johnson"I'm a full time, 9-5 employee, and I needed a graduate program that would fit into my schedule. Poly's location is great - I work in downtown Manhattan and live in Brooklyn, so for me this is perfect. It's easy to get to and isn't a long commute from work.

The professors here are very involved in my education - but most of all, they're involved in my career. I'm an HR rep at JP Morgan Chase, and my concentration is Human Resource Management. I can always turn to them with questions about my work, or about a particular project. Also, there is a lot of camaraderie among the students because we're all in the same boat - we all work. It's very hard to juggle school and work, and so the support is essential. We help each other."

Mike Delcorsano
'03 MS in Information Systems Engineering

Mike Delcorsano"Ever since I finished undergraduate studies, a few years ago, I was looking into graduate programs. It was very hard to find a curriculum that I liked. Poly's Executive ISE program just seemed like the right balance between management and technology that I was looking for. Having a variety of people from different areas, someone always has something helpful to contribute. The executive format is two years, twice a week, every other week. It really affords you the opportunity to learn the material at your own pace. My outlook has changed since taking this curriculum, I've learned so much more than I thought I would. It's something I am very happy about."

Glenn Ericksen
MS in Telecommunications and Information Management (TIM)
Currently at Verizon Communications

Glenn Ericksen"I'd been with Verizon for almost twenty years, and felt it was time for me to earn a graduate degree and take my career to the next level. In these uncertain times I felt it was important to strengthen my skills.

When you look at going back to graduate school a couple of nights a week over a 5 year period, that's a long haul. I have a family at home, and graduate school can put a crimp in your activities. What I liked about the TIM program is the condensed nature of it, Friday and Saturday. It's a 15-month program.

I think the faculty and directors demonstrate right up front that they're all about leading innovation. You've got wireless technology in the classroom, and everyone has a laptop. Presentations are electronically based. They've got a tech team on-site that supports you. The program directors are always accessible.

Poly's TIM program has certainly made me more knowledgeable. In a company as large as mine you tend to be narrowly focused. What this program really has done is exposed me to a lot of other areas of technology, so as I deal with my peers in the company I'm more educated as far as what they're doing and where they're coming from. This is a real life experience for people that want to grow in their careers, and be more valuable within their company."

Pedro Castillo
'02 MS in Management of Technology (MOT)
Project Manager for Pelco

Pedro Castillo"As a project manager for Pelco, I guide 9 different teams in developing new products. When I started to look into graduate programs, I wanted one that would enhance my skills, teach me concepts and help me give my teams more structure--a program that was going to be compact and cutting edge, but where I could still be a participant at work. After doing my research, I found that's what the Poly MOT program offered. Because the classes are taught in the evening and on Saturday, I can put in a full day at work, and still maintain the work habits that I'm accustomed to.

The MOT program has made me more methodical. It's made me approach my job differently. I'm always thinking of ways to improve my performance, whether with better tools or new processes I think I can implement. I think about how I interact with other departments.

The main advantage of the Poly MOT program is that you're working with people from different industries. There are people from the telecom industry, from manufacturing, from pharmaceuticals--and they provide a lot of insight. The professors are also in the industry, and they teach from their own experience, using it as a guideline."

Dina Tate
'02 Management of Technology (MOT)
Currently at Essence.com

Dina Tate"The web is changing so fast and I liked that the MOT program stresses innovation. The program also stresses e-business, and that's why I knew it was the right fit.

Since I work for an Internet company, I loved the fact that everything about the MOT program was interactive. We have web access, everything is uploaded to the site, we have course schedules online. With e-commerce, you have to always be ahead of the game in finding new ways to get customers to your site and sell your products. You also need to know what other companies are doing. The MOT program teaches you how to analyze companies and find out why they do what they do. I've been able to take a lot of what I learned and apply it to my job now. It's allowed my company to make more money by cutting back on administrative costs.

The MOT program has taught me so much about organizational behavior. I've learned how to become a leader and how to work within a group. I've learned how to deal with different peoples personalities, pool them all together and put out the best product. Everything is about team.

The MOT program is like a nice little family, with everyone bringing something to the table. We come from such diverse backgrounds, so we try to learn from each other. My long range goal is to start my own Internet company with some of the other MOT students. There are still niches out there that haven't been tapped into."
