- Where can I find out about Fellowships at Poly?
Fellowships are granted by department. There are two types of fellowships: Research and Teaching fellowships. Each student has to contact the department for applying and information regarding these fellowships.

- What kind of grants does NYU-Poly have?
In addition to the above mentioned grants, poly grants Graduate Assistantship where graduate students assign different tasks and are paid according to the numbers of hours per two-weeks.
- What is the difference between part-time and full-time?
Part-time is equal to six credits or less (two classes). Full-time is equal to nine credits or more (three classes or more).
- How do I get financial aid?

- As an international student, can I get a fellowship, and how do I apply for it?
Yes, international students are eligible for such fellowships. They have to contact their department for information regarding this.
- As an international student, how many credits do I need to take to maintain graduate status?
As an international student, you should be a full-time student for each semester which means you have to registered for at least 9 credit hours.
- As an international student, can I go below the credit requirements and still maintain graduate status?
Under normal circumenstances, you should maintain full-time student status, but there is exceptional conditions where you can do that. Each case will be handled on case by case basis.
- What is an RA, and how do become one?
RA: Research Assistant, please check 4 and 10 above.
- What is a TA, and how do I become one?
TA: Teaching Assistant, please check 4 and 10 above.
- How much money do I earn as an RA or TA?
For RA, the department will pay the tuition for plus monthly stipend. TA depends on the department and type of work student is handling.
- What are my prospects after I graduate from Polytechnic Institute of NYU?
Graduate students enter programs at various stages of their career. Some enter directly out of an undergraduate program, looking to advance their knowledge before entering the workforce. ADMISSIONS
- My GPA is below the required mark, will I be accepted?
You can still apply for admission, but in this it is highly recommended to provide GRE/GMAT score for better chances.
- I have done several projects and/or have professional experience, will this improve my chance of acceptance?
This will be considered but the decision will be based on the evaluation of all the materials provided by you.
- What is the minimum score required on exams required for entry (TOEFL/GRE/GMAT)?
TOEFL is 213 (computer based) and 550 (for paper based). There is no cut-off score for GRE and GMAT. The evaluation will be based on all your materials (Transcripts, recommendation letters, experience and GRE/GMAT scores)

- How much do required books cost?
Costs for books will be approximately $750.
- What is the cost of living in New York?
For one academic year (nine months), you should plan on spending approximately $8,000 for room and board (food) and an additional $2500 on personal expenses. Should you decide to stay for the summer, you can expect an additional cost of $2400 for room and board, and $600 in personal expenses.
- Where can I find Health Insurance Information?
Polytechnic offers a health insurance plan for $700 per year.
- What is the complete cost of my degree at Poly?
$36,972 for a master's degree.

We have four campuses: Brooklyn, Manhattan, Long Island and Westchester. For our main campus, brooklyn campus, there are mainly 4 areas which are convenient for poly students: Queens, Mahattan, brooklyn and Statan Island.

- Do I need a car at Poly?
Since Poly's main campus is located in a major metropoiitan area, and nearby a cluster of mass transportation, there is no reason to need a car. That being said, if you should find yourself attending class at our Long Island or Westchester campuses,
- As an international student, how can I get a social security card?
The new regulation of INS states that for any student who wish to apply for SSN, he/she has to have a job. So international students have to have an on-campus job before applying for SSN.
MORE QUESTIONS
- I didn't get my I-20, whom do I contact?
If you didn't receive your I-20 your application maybe incomplete or is still being processed. Please contact gradinfo@poly.edu to check on your status.
- When do I get my I-20?
If we have received the proper documentation of your financial eligibility and TOEFL exam results your I-20 form should be received with your letter of admission. If not make sure to contact us to find out what documents we need.
- How do I convert my percentage to Grade Point Average (GPA)?
International students, particularly those from India, do not have their grades presented in the U.S. GPA system. It is recommended that you do not try to convert your percentage into GPA, as grading systems differ throughout the world and throughout the countries themselves. NYU-Poly is aware of these differences and has its own method of evaluating percentage marks.
- How does the credit system work?
Each course of graduate study is worth three credits. Typical master's degrees require 36 credits. A PhD program normally requires 96 credits, of which 60 are derived from coursework and 36 are earned from research activities within the department and with your advisor.
- Are photocopies of my documents acceptable?
We require an original copies of your documents, but for speeding up the process we could accept photocopies of them, but eventually you have to provide us with original copies.
- I am married, how can I bring my spouse with me?
If you are applying for F-1 visa, then your spouse should apply for F-2 and so on.
- Can my spouse work if she is on my visa?
According to INS rules, to work in USA you should have an H-1 visa or work permit.
