New Undergraduate Student Checklist

Once you have been accepted, use this checklist to ensure a smooth transition to NYU-Poly:

  • Tuition Deposit: Send in your tuition deposit in order to hold your spot in the class.

  • Health Insurance: Familiarize yourself with NYU-Poly's student Health Insurance. All students taking 9 or more credits are automatically enrolled in the NYU-Poly health insurance plan. If you are a domestic student you may opt-out of the program.

  • Immunization: Submit your proof of immunity documents.

  • Advanced Placement (AP) Scores: Students can obtain college credit at NYU-Poly for their work on the Advanced Placement examinations (AP).  In order for you to get college credit for your AP work, please request that the College Board send your Advanced Placement scores to the NYU-Poly Office of Admissions, Six MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY 11201 ASAP. Refer to this chart to see which AP courses will count towards degree requirements at NYU-Poly.

  • Laptop Computer: Since 2000, NYU-Poly has required all of its students to have laptops. For a thorough outline of the academic year’s laptop hardware and software requirements, take a moment to read the Laptop Computer Program Guide.
  • Mathematics Diagnostic Exams: All incoming students (both first year students and transfer students) MUST take the mathematics diagnostic exam, except those students who have received a score of 4 or 5 on the AP Calculus AB or BC exam(s).  Official copies of AP scores must be sent to the NYU-Poly Admissions Office as soon as possible in order to waive this requirement. Please contact the Mathematics Department for further information.  Exams typically take 1.5 to 2 hours although you may take as much time as you wish; you may use pen or pencil and any calculator during the exam.

  • The NYU-Poly Peer Alliance Program: Peer Mentors, upper class students mentoring incoming first-year students, provide guidance and support to first-year students in order to ease their transition into the University, to Brooklyn, and life in New York City.  Mentors will meet during structured outings two times during the fall semester and two times during the spring semester, in addition to being on call to answer questions and offer support for first year students throughout the matriculation process.  To sign up for a Peer Mentor, please complete the survey here. Mentors will reach out to their mentees via email during the first week of classes.
