Mathematics plays an ever-increasing role in our shifting technological landscape. From engineers and economists to scientists and statisticians, a solid background in mathematics is absolutely critical for adapting to the new paradigms shaping our world.
Whether you choose to seek a career in academia or apply your talents in government and industry, NYU-Poly’s PhD program in Mathematics prepares you for success. Our focus is on the student: we offer you extensive individual attention and a curriculum tailored to your specific needs.
The keys to our program are balance and flexibility. With the help of a guidance committee, you design your own coursework around 1 major and 2 minor fields, the minor fields of which are outside of mathematics. Taking advantage of interdisciplinary possibilities outside of the department ensures a versatile and well-rounded education.
Outstanding students are advised to apply for research fellowships, teaching fellowships, or partial tuition remission.
Graduates of the PhD program can become software designers, biostatisticians, and industrial engineers. They also excel as imaging scientists, aerospace mathematicians, or economists. In addition, our students are qualified to step directly into teaching positions at the university level.
