How do I register for an NYU-ePoly course?

What is my NYU-ePoly e-mail account?

All NYU-Poly students are given an NYU-Poly email account. The account will have the notation “students.poly.edu,” which can be accessed at https://my.poly.edu/webapps/login. In order to activate your account you must 1) register for a course; and 2) contact the NYU-Poly IS Helpdesk at (718) 260-3123 or via e-mail: help@poly.edu.

How do I get my NYU-ePoly login information?

All registered NYU-ePoly students will receive an e-mail containing their login information one week before the start of classes.

Where is my NYU-ePoly course located?

After logging into NYU-ePoly you will be taken to your student home page which will contain the NYU-ePoly course(s) you are enrolled in.

What is orientation week?

One week before the official start of classes, students registered in NYU-ePoly courses receive early access to their online courses in order to:

• Become familiar with the online tools
• Introduce themselves to their instructor
• Buy textbooks

How is my NYU-ePoly course structured?

All NYU-ePoly courses have the Course Home Page as the starting point when you log in. The content of the Course Home Page includes an introduction to the course and will differ by design depending on your instructor. The Course Navigation Bar is located on the left hand side of the screen. This is where you can navigate within a course from one module to another, module to content item, or vice versa.

Modules are folders on the Course Navigation Bar containing lecture material and activities. Content Items fall under the Modules on the Course Navigation Bar. Click on a specific Module to expand all of the content items within it. The content items may be lecture materials, readings, quizzes, homework, and other activities.

The Course Tool Bar is located at the top of the screen on all NYU-ePoly courses. Here, you will find tools such as the dropbox, gradebook, e-mail, and chat.

How do I communicate with my instructor and classmates?

The most popular method of communication is via e-mail, and it is mandatory for all students to use their NYU-Poly email account for receiving and sending correspondence as it relates to their courses.

Another popular method of communication is the threaded discussion. This is how your instructor simulates a class discussion and where you can post your responses to questions or other postings from your instructor and/or classmate(s).

Most of our instructors do provide a contact telephone number on their course syllabus should you need to speak to them. Sometimes, instructors will organize a class conference call or face-to-face meeting, but most of the communications occur online.

How do I submit my assignments and projects?

The dropbox tool provides an easy method for you to submit your completed assignments to your instructor. Depending on your instructor, you may also be asked to fax or e-mail your assignments and projects in lieu of the dropbox.

How do I take my exams?

Depending on the instructor, exams will be provided either online or in-person at an academic institution near you. Online exams are restricted by day and time limits. Proctored exams will need to be coordinated by your instructor and the NYU-ePoly program coordinator.

How do I check my grades?

The Gradebook tool is where you will be able to check on a grade posted by your instructor for an assignment or online exam. An item not yet graded by your instructor will be represented by an asterisk.

Does NYU-ePoly have hardware, software, or Internet requirements I should be aware of?

Before starting your NYU-ePoly course, please review the computer requirements to be sure your computer is properly equipped with the necessary tools and software.

Is there someone I can call for tech support?

Support for Polytechnic Institute of NYU students is separated into 2 levels:

Does NYU-ePoly have online resources available to students to do research?

As an NYU-Poly student, you have online access to electronic journals with your student ID. Go to the library website to begin your search for journals.

Does an NYU-ePoly course count toward any degree?

Absolutely. There is no difference in content between a on-campus NYU-Poly course and an NYU-ePoly course. Degrees earned from taking online courses are the same as the degrees that conventional students earn.

How many credits are NYU-ePoly courses?

NYU-ePoly courses are 3 credits, the same amount of credits as a on-campus NYU-Poly course.

Can I enroll in NYU-ePoly courses if I am a on-campus NYU-Poly student?

Yes, you can enroll in NYU-ePoly courses if you are a on-campus NYU-Poly student.

What is the difference between on-campus course and online course content?

There is no difference between on-campus NYU-Poly and online NYU-ePoly course content. Students of the online learning program will face the same challenging course work required of all NYU-Poly graduate students.
