How to Calculate Your Grade Point Average (GPA)
Process:
- Write out the course names and credits for each course.
- Write grade received/anticipated in each course.
- Write the number value for each letter grade (see below)
- Multiply grade values by number of credits for each class (called “GPS Points”)
- Total GPA points.
- Divide total number of GPA points by total number of credits = GPA
Remember:
- If you withdraw from a course, do not count these credits as part of your total credits.
- Transfer credits DO NOT count towards your GPA.
- If you retake a course you have failed, and pass the second time, only count the credits for taking the course once.
- Divide the total GPA points by total credits attempted.
Number Values for Letter Grades:
A = 4.0 C+ = 2.3 F = Below 1.0
A- = 3.7 C = 2.0
B+ = 3.3 C- = 1.7
B = 3.0 D+ = 1.3
B- = 2.7 D =1.0
