MAJORS

Do I have to have a major?

Yes. In order to graduate with an undergraduate degree, you must choose a major and complete the departmental and university requirements for that major.

What majors are available?

A list of majors and minors appears in the Polytechnic Institute of NYU Catalog on page 64-65.

When should I declare my major?

There are a small percentage of NYU-Poly students that are undecided about majors when they enter college. Students should try to declare a major by the spring semester of their freshman year. This usually puts them in a good position to graduate in four years.

How do I choose a major?

Most students that are accepted to NYU-Poly already have a particular major in mind. However, the choice you make can certainly impact your future career. You should take the following steps before making your decision:

  • Ask yourself: What are my interests?
  • Do I have a career in mind? There is information about choosing majors in your Polytechnic Institute of NYU Catalog.
  • Attend workshops or career fairs at the university. You should contact or visit Career Services for the upcoming event schedule.

How do I declare a major, change my major, add a second major or declare a minor?

Students should see their academic adviser to have the Request To Declare/Change Major form signed. Upon completing this form, the student should return it to the Office of the Registrar.

What minors are available?

A list of majors and minors appear in the Polytechnic Institute of NYU Catalog on page 64-65

Do I have to complete a minor?

No. Minors are optional.
