Submissions are evaluated by a jury of influential investors and business executives based on their potential impact, feasibility, and patentability. But this is not a business plan competition, it is a space for innovative thinkers to get hands-on experience pitching ideas to their peers and to seasoned professionals.
This year the competition will begin with online ratings! Student teams are encouraged to engage their peers and the public in an online dialog about their ideas (without revealing intellectual property, of cousre). Online ratings will account for 15% of each team's overall score heading into the selection of semifinalists and earn them a chance at the $200 People's Choice Award cash prize. Online voting will be open from January 31st through February 5th, 2012.
Winners will also have free access to a number of mentoring opportunities as well as a patent attorney, who will assist with securing patent protection for the first place winner in each category.
Winners will be announced at NYU-Poly’s first ever i²e Gala at the Empire State Building. The Gala will honor two notable and highly deserving friends of NYU-Poly: Glenn A. Britt, Chairman and CEO of Time Warner Cable, Inc. with our inaugural i²eLeadership Award and entrepreneur Paul Soros ’50, ’05 HON with our inaugural i²eInnovator of Distinction Award.

Now there’s an application for people fueled by action sports. Using Foursquare technology, Filip Mlekicki developed ‘Shred Something,’ a smart phone app that allows action sports enthusiasts to communicate and add location data about extreme activity hotspots. This app is set to rip-it-up in the skateboarding, cycling, surfing and snowboarding communities.
